Matsushima Pleasure Boat (YUKI_0403)

Niomaru Course on Jul 22, 2020

Matsushima, literally “Pine Island”, is counted as one of the three scenic spots along with Amanohashidate in Kyoto and Miyajima in Hiroshima. One of the recommended sightseeing activities in Matsushima is the pleasure boat that allows you to enjoy the spectacular view from the sea.

There are more than 260 islands in the bay, and the colorful beauty of the blue of the sea, the blue of the sky, and the green of the pine has fascinated historical figures such as Matsuo Basho, great haiku master, and Date Masamune, one of the most popular warlords in Japanese history.

And now, Matsushima Bay is gaining more and more attention as one of the most beautiful bays in the world, on par with Mont Saint-Michel Bay in France and Halong Bay in Vietnam.

Basho Course on Nov 8, 2021

My top recommendation is the “Niomaru Course”, which takes about 50 minutes to enjoy a leisurely boat trip in Matsushima Bay. However, the one-way “Basho Course” between Shiogama and Matsushima also offers a special 50 minute experience where you can share the excitement of the great haiku master.
